I was looking for a reel that would serve for spinning, casting an trolling, and this reel is great for everything, I caught sea fish such as barracudas, sawfish, sea bass, croaker up to forty pounds and tows like goldfish.

A Rock Solid Reel

For years the Shimano Baitrunner has been the reel of choice amongst British anglers going after 200lb+ European Wels Catfish , and with good reason - these reels are pretty near bullet -proof!
I use one of the smallest size , that I have had for close to ten years , for all my Pike deadbait work - it is utterly dependable . I use the same reel for hard-running Grass (Amur)Carp - always feel totally in control and the baitrunner facility is vital for the closed bale 'bolt-rig' technique we Brits use for Carp.
These reels are rock solid in build and serve as a fine showcase of Shimanos abilities as reel producers of the highest order.

Great reel. Using 40lb braid it casts like a dream.
Feels well balanced when realling.
Very smooth actions.
I use this primarily for stripper fishing. I have it married up with a St Croix Tidemaster 8' MH one pc and used a Berkley Gulp 10" eel, great combination. The reel has a bit of weight over some other reels but feels like its of better quality.
I plan on purchasing another for my wife. On another note my brother in law purchased the Daiwa baitrunner which is also a nice reel but even he wishes he had spent the extra money for the shimano.

I have caught 30+ lbers Stripers and smaller with this at the Cape Cod Canal, and it holds up very well. It is a great reel and it holds the big fish pretty well, the drag is easy to adjust in the middle of a fight.

Thrown live eels with it as well off of Race Pt.
My go to reel now.

I own two of these reels, a 6000 and an 8000. I use them for flathead catfish, and they are awesome! Handles braid very well, and the baitfeeder system really helps when fishing at night. When a cat takes your bait, you hear it instantly. I don't need to use glowsticks or bells. I am gonna get another 8000 and also a 4000.

I used these reels on a guided trip in southern Maine for stripers and I was very impressed with the drag. We were live-lining mackerel and it was very easy to tell the difference between the mackerel taking line and a striper taking the mackerel.

A Good Solid Reel

I have owned two of these reels (one for me and one for my wife) since 2003 and fished in the salt off the Florida Keys, Florida Panhandle, the Gulf Coast of Texas and NH Seacoast. It has never failed and with some normal end of the season lubrication and cleaning and a rinse off after each use it is still going strong after 8+ years of use. My fishing is primarily bait fishing from boats, bridges and off the beach into the surf. I like the bait runner capability as it allows you to place the pole in a holder or rest it on a bridge without fear of losing the whole rig to a big fish.
I recommend this as a great moderately priced reel that delivers high priced performance.

would not recommend this product to anyone, and the reel landed a total of 3 strippers before the gear blew out on it.
if you wanna waste your hard earned money on junk then this is the product for you.
