I bought this reel because much of my fishing is done drifting rivers in a canoe. It is hard on gear, quite often things like avoiding sweepers become a bigger priority than being careful with your equipment. Before I bought this reel I was breaking one or two rods a season and wearing out reels in two years or less. I bought a BG 15 and put it on a 7' Uglystick, 6 years and hundreds of fish later this rig is still working just like it did the day I bought it. Its hauled in a few walleye in the 30" range and a couple pike over 40".
Cant beat these things for durability.

I've used the BG series of reels since the late 1970's. Their ball bearing works and smooth drag are really fine.

BG 60 & 90

I own a 60 and a 90 and have every snce they were first released. I have fished both reels on 7 foot two piece rods in Costa Rica for tarpon on two sperate occassions. Landing tarpon in the 100 to over 150 pounds class on 15# and 20# line was a blast and neither reel ever let me down. The drags are smooth and set correctly will add a real challenge to any anglers tug of war. I always take the 90 spooled with 20 Lb when fishing local waters off San Diego on two and three day trips for Yellowfin, Yellowtai, Albies and Dorado. The perfect setup for pitching a chovy exactly where others can't with a conventional setup.

I just recently found one of these laying around in my house, I took it apart and began cleaning it. It is made very simply, it is a "lifer', a reel that really could last a life time.
I have more expensive reels that may reel a bit smoother, but at the end of the day, this reel is incredibly easy to disassemble, clean and re assemble, which goes a long way.
There really isn't any downsides to this reel, it's affordable, and works well, what more is there to say. Its the perfect reel for someone on a budget, and who wants something built to last.
