Bought this reel for my son in law as part of flounder set up for beginners. Its easy for him to use and hassle free. Spooled with 50lb. braid. My friend has 2 of them and had them for over 3 years with no problem.
Good value for the money and guts to handle the rocks and pilings when flounder fishing.

I received the reel as a graduation present 4 years ago. Since then i have fished in Mexico Oregon Washington and Canada and cough everything from rock fish and ling to marlin in the 150 pound range and a fair share of 30 pound king salmon.
the reel has held up very well and still works like the day i bought it.

I picked up a Charter Special 300 to use for bottom fishing and light trolling along the coast. I have used these reels previously on a friend's boat.
The real is excellent and compares favorably to my Penn 320GLDs. It is rugged and smooth for a reel at this price point. I highly recommend it for an all-around reel. When choosing between this reel and the Penn, you should hold both (preferably on a rod) to see which you like better. Both perform comparably although the Penns don't have anti-reverse and thus they have a little slop in the handle.

I've always been satisfied with Shimano.
I used the reel on a recent fishing trip to Los Barrillas, Mexico.
It performed well on the Tuna and Dorado which reached 35-40 lbs.
Wouldn't have been enough for the Blue and Striped Marlin, which ranged form 80-400 lbs.

Most reliable reels I have.
Even first time users have good experiences with them.
I love the lever dragon such a reasonably priced reel.
