TOTALLY FAILED FIRST DAY

I bought 2 of these as soon as I found them - great brand, excellent price and a spinning reel that can handle huge line capacity and huge fish. The VERY FIRST day out mine totally fails (drag brakes loose, reel goes into freespool, crank does nothing) while fighting a 10 lb grouper. Thinking this HAS to be a 1 time fluke, I rig up the second one and catch a few snapper, 2 small blacktips, a 5 lb grouper and THE SECOND ONE DOES THE SAME THING while fighting a red snapper that's only 6 lbs (got both fish pulling line in hand over hand).
DO NOT BUY THIS REEL! Find another high capacity spinning reel. If you want to stay with Daiwa, get the large model of the Black and Gold. This one is junk. I threw both of mine away in disgust on day one without even warrantying it for replacements because they'd just send me 2 more of the same thing that I wouldn't trust for anything.
Imagine if those had been BIG fish!

Good reel. Beware of braid slide

Reel very rugged!! Exceeded expectations. Beware of the braid sliding on the spool due to the large diameter! Spool mono or tape first. I made the mistake of not doing so and put on quite a comedy show for several people on a fishing pier as I was trying to stop a small 3' shark from spooling my huge reel and 12' rod. I had no gloves or wrap stick close by to stop him.. You only grab fast moving braid one time and learn quickly to use your rod butt... I'm writing this as a confession that I blamed the Daiwa reel for the drag turning loose. It was an operator error.
Thanks Diawa for this well made reel!

This reel is really big. I put it on my beefstick and its a giant. very powerful reel.
I like it especially because its so smooth. one thing to note is that you can not switch hands. its a lefty.
I bought it knowing that because i spool as a lefty.

Best purchase ever

Awesome reel I have it on a daiwa beefstick 10ft. I just landed a Is 42" bull redfish at Dauphin Island. This reel has plenty of drag power to slow most fish at 33lb drag!
Will be purchasing another one!
