OK, but no Omega

I bought this in response to a review about it was so much better than an omega. However, after using it for a solid week of fishing I rate it as OK. It held up well and never let me down. The annoying aspects were the drag location adjacent to the release button so you constantly hit it and it moves very easily so it is always changing and when I got a snag trolling the button would not release the line until you backed the boat up to remove the tension.
Not a good aspect.
I rate this real about 50% of the quality of my omega's.

Disappointing

I found this reel to be a bit on the heavy side with a sturdy die casting. When I removed the handle screw to make it a left hand retrieve I was surprised to see the white plastic bearing broken in two pieces. This reel is also quite noisy and the supplied monofilament line is of poor quality. The casting button is also loose and appears to be a weak link in the design. Now I feel like I'm stuck with it although still functional.
Made in Thailand.

Very nice reel for a general fishing. It will cast as well and far as my baitcaster. First Daiwa product I have owned, I would highly recommend this reel to anybody the enjoys fishing.
I use it every weekend, you will too!

Lefty

2012-12-21T09:20:30

One of the few affordable, quality, left-handed reels available. I'm right handed but when I fish I like to have the control of the rod and lure in my right hand. Swap the handle and away you go. Unlike the old Johnson Century reel, only the handle swaps so you could move it side to side without having to reload new line each time.
I'm leaving it lefty.

What a drag

2012-12-13T12:20:41

The drag adjustment wheel wouldn't stay where I set it. The drag was too light even when set at the highest level. I contacted an authorized Daiwa service center and I was told that there must be a stripped part. I also had intermittant reeling problems like something was interfering with the gears. I ended up returning this reel to Amazon for a refund. I was very disappointed with the reel considering the majority of reviewers had good things to report about it with the exception of the adjustment wheel issue. This was my first and last purchase of a Daiwa reel and will try Abu-Garcia reels next time.

Quality spincast

2012-12-02T09:19:43

I've used these reels for years for my wife and daughters. They are easy for them to cast and have held up well. Purchased a new one recently and thus far I have been satisfied.
The reel seems to have a grinding noise which is louder than I recall so I am a little concerned about the new reels reliability.

Spincast excellence

I bought 1 then I had to go back and buy another. This reel is my ace in the hole when I'm having a slow day, it never lets me. I have read other reviews saying that it's not worth the money, I would have to disagree.
I have been contemplating putting braided line on it but I haven't heard of anyone doing it.

Best Closed Face Spinning Reel

2012-11-03T09:17:55

11/3/2012 9:17:55 AM 5 of 5 stars 5 out of 5 stars

This is the best closed face spinning reel I've ever used.
I have used this brand and model for over 30 years now, and am totally satisfied with it's performance.
The rolling sleeve on the pickup pin makes all the difference.
The line doesn't kink up on the spool after the drag is used heavily.
It casts extremely well and cleans easily.
