This has been a fantastic reel.

At 7.3:1 it can take up line amazingly quick. Casts like a dream. I was initially impressed with the distance at which I could cast baits. So I started experimenting with it some. Spinnerbaits, chatterbaits all cast like a missile. But, it was crappie season a couple weeks ago and the bass were not cooperating. SO, I put on an 1/8 strike king spinnerbait. Usually fantastic on our crappie. After about three casts for adjustments I was easily casting this light bait with a wind catching blade on it, up wards of 50 ft with ease. If I stretched it and really paid attention there is not doubt I was making three boat lengths. Very impressive. Then the wind started picking up, with some adjustment I was still able to cast this light bait with distance but accuracy suffered on long cast, strictly because of the wind.

This has been a pitchers dream, everything from a hollow body frog to a quarter ounce jig, this reel is incredibly smooth and fast. I've used many burner reels, and with a full spool I'd have to say this reel takes up line faster than any that I've used. I am a die hard shimano fan but this reel is faster. When pitching baits to cover there are two reasons to have a fast retrieve, most important is if a bass swims at you so you can take up line and get a good hook set. 2nd, so you can get your bait in quickly to make another cast. The reel excels at both of these.

I am not a specs guy and can't tell you the weight of all the reels I use, but I can tell you that this reel is very light, matched with the Helios rod, I am amazed each time I pick it up. According to the website the Komodo weighs in at 6.5 ounces.

The eleven bearing system is very smooth. I haven't taken the reel apart yet to check everything out, but I can tell you it's very well balanced and very smooth.

So far I haven't caught anything worthy of testing the drag on this machine yet but I'm sure I will soon. This is my third reel in the Okuma Line up that I have been able to use and I must say they all have been fantastic and I highly recommend them.
