First Generation

I bought my STX about 5-6 years ago so I guess it's a 1st generation. I don't need a new one because mine still performs like it just came out of the box. I've been realy happy with it. It's my only baitcaster that I never had a backlash with. It's still smooth as silk. The variable adjustment works perfectly. I usually take 5 or six rigs with me going out and the Revo STX is always one of them.
It is worth every penny.
You will NOT be disappointed.

Major Disappointment

This review is for the latest STX, which is what is supposed to be written for, not the older version. ( I personally like the 1st generation STX, not the 2nd or 3rd. The reel looks great, but feels terrible! Try putting 3 fingers in front of the trigger guard on any rod and you'll see what I mean. The gear box, redesigned is bigger and really uncomfortable. Terrible design. Makes you wonder if anyone at Abu got more than one opinion on how it felt on a rod. If you only put two fingers in front of the trigger on your rod, you may like it. I was majorly disappointed. I was ready to switch to all STX over Shimano's disgusting redesign of their chronarch, but the STX is even worse.
Try one on before you buy.
Anyone giving this 5 stars, must work for ABU GARCIA!!

I currently have a Revo STX-L-HS, Revo STX-L, Revo SX-L, and a Revo Toro Winch-L and just bought a Revo Winch-L. So far they all seem to be very nice reels.
Excellent feel and durability. The drag is unmatched. The braking system is very well built and allows you to tune in any type of bait.
I have yet to be let down by any Abu Garcia product.

Revo Stx performs well

The Revo Stx performs well.
Its light weight and low profile make it easy to use.
It casts smoothly and has a smooth drag.
I own and fish about 20 different bait casting reels.
The Revo performs on par with the best models I already own, but I cannot say for certain that it is superior to my other reels.

stick with the gen 2

I bought the gen 3 stx with very high expectations. Don't get me wrong it is a very nice reel but it is definetly a bit of a downgrade from the gen 2 stx's. My gen 2 stx's are tanks and frankly in my opinion somewhat of a standard bearer for low pro baitcast reels. I buy revos for their versatility from bass to pike. They are pretty looking but don't feel as solid as the gen 2's. They corrected the boat rash issues and added new gears but I don't understand the facination companies have now with trying to make things as light as possible. They are lighter but I feel like they sacraficed quality in the process. I couldn't get near 20lbs of drag out of it with my scale. The guard over the line guide feels cheap as well as the thumb bar. If u are looking for strickly a bass reel it is nice but you have to crank down the cast control so much in order to throw heavy spinners or crankbaits. I was looking for a versitile reel b/c I have plenty of bassin baitcast reels but the new stx was not it. I took it back and bought the daiwa lexa 300 and I am about to get the lexa 100 soon. They are so much more solid and my lexa truely gets its 22 lbs's of drag. Its a solid beast. If u are new too revos try the gen3 revos line but having a couple gen 2's my self I was kind of disappointed.
