Great casters and great drag

I love it. Got it near the end of the fall last season. Had no problem with some big blues and some bass in some heavy current. Casts nice also. It had a minor bug with the AR ratchet rubbing on the main gear making a little noise. I eventually bent the flaps just a tad and it stopped making the noise. It's easy to open up and change the cast controls even in the dark standing on a rock. Easy to take apart and clean and inspect. All around great reel.Plenty of winching power a great drag and the retrieve is nice and slow.
I can't wait to use it again this year.

Outstanding Reel

I purchased these reels for salmon fishing and they didn't disappoint. When the release popped it took no time at all to catch up to the fish with the high retrieval rate. The drag system and the smoothness of the reel is outstanding also. Was fishing on Lake Oahe for chinooks, worked great on the salmon I caught. Also used the reels to catch Big walleyes with no problems and also dropped down to the tailrace at night to catch 6 to 10 pound channel cats at night. After catching the catfish in that heavy current I knew I made the right choice by going with the Saltist

Fast Reel

12/20/2012 11:06:20 AM 5 of 5 stars 5 out of 5 stars

Probably the best reel I have used for Salmon.
When the big one makes a run at the boat, with barbless hooks, you have to be fast and it has to hold up to the rigors of salt and drag.

Good Choice for the Money

2012-11-06T11:04:53

The Salitist levelwind is an excellent choice for fishing Salom in Washington and Oregon states. The fast retrieve keeps up when the Salmon runs towords you.
The reasons I gave this reel a 4 instead of a 5 is it is high maitainace around Saltwater and the drug wears down in a short period of time. The repairs are costly. But I do like the reels for Jigging Yellowtail on the Sea of Cortez. and more so for Salmon up north.

Musky Reel

2012-11-01T11:05:29

11/1/2012 11:05:29 AM 4 of 5 stars 4 out of 5 stars

I purchased a Saltist 20 to cast large blade bucktails for muskies.
There is a learning curve involved with this application, but considering the price compared to that of other suitable reels, the Saltist is a good option.
