Fishermen's opinions about Penn Sargus

Penn Sargus

most reliable salt water reel

Penn Sargus has worked for me for the past three years. I use my reel in a tidal area and when I got home after fishing I would rinse the reel with tap water then wipe it down with a rag. A few times I didn't rinse the reel until after two or three trips and it is still working for me.
I have friends that use the Shimano Socorro and they said they have no problems using it. I just picked up on of these Socorro spinning reels to use.

Both of these spinning reels are made to handle the superbraid spectra lines.

Even though reels say they can be used in the saltwater they can still get corrosion and it would be a great idea to rinse them after fishing in saltwater.

I bought this reel last year for catching paddlefish. They can only be snagged and weigh 100+ pounds. I have put this reel through a workout and it is awesome! I burned up 5 other reels in 3 years fishing for these freshwater beasts and got very frustrated. I am now on my second season with this reel and 0 problems. I caught a 70 pounder on Sunday and it performed wonderfully! I am now purchasing a second reel to equip a second rod.

Amazing reel

I have taken this reel on three trips so far. On the first i dropped it in the ocean multiple times and feared that it would be ruined after the first trip. It stood up incredibly well and two trips and half a dozen 6 ft sharks later it still works like new,
