Penn Spinfisher V

awesome reel (ssv3500)

i haven't used it much, but so far i really like this reel. it really is just like the conquer, which i have the 7000 of, but at a much more reasonable price. doesn't have the fancy look, but i don't care. it's super smooth, drag is consistent, and it casts great. I've never had issues with the bail wire, but u can tell it's heavy duty. yet still a very light reel. the capacity seems to be underestimated, though. i fit 300 yards of 15 lb pp slick on the 3500. it's def full, maybe past the full line, but i didn't have any 'too full' issues. the rod i got is the offshore angler inshore extreme 6'6" medium. great combo for what i wanted. def recommend.

Reel works well and and so far appears strong enough to muscle an average size Striped Bass up to 20 lb'er.
I haven't been lucky enough to test her on anything bigger yet.
The reel is not really all that water resistant if you can not reel in a fish while reel is under water.
Maintenance is not all that easy trying to get into body of reel.
I have not been able to locate service manual anywhere.

Great reel , but not as smooth as Slammer Series

I have been purchasing Penn Reels since I bought my first Green and white Penn when I was a teenager. I bought this new Spinfisher Five series and it is a great reel. I have over a dozen older Penn Spinfisher reels at home and all were as smooth as silk. I rated it as a 4 only because I am compairing it to my Penn's at home. My Series of slammer reels are unbelievably smooth. They do beat this reel both at the crank handle and the drag. I have no regrets on purchasing this reel but I might lean towards a Slammer series reel if I were to purchase another one
