Great Reel

Buy this reel! I have the 4000rg and I bought it after my bass pro bait cast combo reel broke. Everything kept falling of the reel after 1 1/2 years, so I bought the 4000rg model a 20 lb braided line and a mh ugly stick.
I love it, I had it for a year now and it is the. Best reel and is so reliable. Over the course of 1 year I caught a 6lb white bass, a 15lb common carp, and a 21 1/2 lb catfish

Great Reel

I had to wait a few weeks because the reel was back ordered. I see why. This is the nicest reel I used in many years. It cast fast with out any hang ups. The only thing I wish is it came with a extra spool. The push button is great but with nothing to change too it is a underused feature. They should at least have a link to buy additional spools when you purchase the reel.

One of the finest reels I have owned

After loosing valuable fishing time untangling birdnest in my kayak, with my bait caster that I used for bass fishing, I decided to give a spin caster a try on windy days going for reds. At first it was awkward, but after a few trips, it is now my go to rig for reds and specks! I love the rear drag. Fight on the run or change out the spool in record time

Another Shimano Lemon

I purchased this reel to replace an entry level Shimano reel I had purchased earlier in the year. I liked the features in this reel. It's too bad Shimano didn't deliver on their promises. This reel wasn't as bad as the first Shimano, but it still failed within the first few fishing trips. It got to the point where the bail would snap shut so quickly on the cast that the lure would come swinging past my mid-section at high speed from a sidearm cast to get around brush on the river. It was doing that more than half the time, so I went back to my vehicle to get my 10+ year old Abu Garcia to finish the day. I should have known better than to buy an inexpensive Shimano. I used to mountain bike about 10 years ago and back then I came to learn that if you didn't buy mid-grade or better Shimano parts for your bike they didn't really measure up.
I guess it's still the same with their reels.

I've been a Garcia user for over fifty years. But after fishing with this Shimano I am sold on it. It works flawlessly, you can easily adjust the drag when you have a big one on and it is noiseless. Cranks without any strain so you fel the full weight of the fish you have on. I use it with a 8 lb test Tyrex. It's a bargain and a great reel. Good fishing.

Salmon Fishing

This is a rugged and responsive reel which was ideal for my Alaskan river salmon fishing trip. i loved the rear drag and the over all dependability of the reel. The only reason I didn't rate it a 5 star is that I did not particularly like the double reel handle knobs..
Also the reel may be too heavy in weight for some fisherman.

Shimano Spirex 1000 Rear drag adjustment

I bought my first Shimano with Quick Fire about 30 years ago. That Mark IIQ has provided many years of excellent service. I really like the Quick Fire.
When I wanted another reel, Shimano with Quick Fire was top on my list of reels to consider. I bought a Shimano Spirex 1000RG two years ago. I've made tens of thousands of casts with it and am still quite pleased with the reel. Most of my fishing is fresh water. I did have to clean some sand out of the reel after I did some surf fishing in Southern CA.
The Spirex 1000RG is very smooth on the retrieve.
I don't change my drag settings often, but when I have a fish on and want to change the drag setting, the rear drag adjustment is my choice.
This is a review of the Shimano Spirex 1000RG, but I will say I know four avid fishers that have the Spirex 2500 and are quite pleased. Due to my experience with the 1000RG, I just bought a Shimano Spirex 2500RG.
The Spirex 1000RG is fantastic.

Shimano Spirex Spinning Reel

I bought the small spool model, I found small
spools cast farther, have less tangles, and
at 28 inches line rewind it is more than adequate.
Main reason I bought this model was the trigger release for the bail. I won't use one without a trigger.
The push button spool release is another great plus.
Excellent value for the money.

Good reel

I bought this about three years ago as a combo with a proguide rod. Reel is great, other than what another user pointed out regarding bobber stops. They hang up on the line roller. I use the thread bobber stops. Other than that, I love this reel. I did not like the double handle at first, but I really like it now. You can order a spare spool from shimano customer service for less than 1/3 the price of the reel. I like the quick release on the spool, makes line changes really quick! It would be nice if shimano included a spare spool with the reel like some other manufacturers do, or an option to buy with/without a spare spool. I love the rear drag also, makes it very easy for me to adjust the drag, if needed, when my girlfriend is fighting a fish. She uses this reel mostly now that I changed over to shimano baitcasters.
