My STL3000FE arrived and I placed her on the St. Croix MoJo.
My wife put some smelling salts under my nose to revive me.
I'm alright now and I am so Happy.

Great Spinning Reel

I own the 1000 series paired with a 5'9 trout series glx rod. I use this combo throughout early spring to late fall trout/salmon fishing. The reel holds up very well and is very smooth. I've landed several large trout using this reel and couldn't be happier with how well it holds up. I can't wait to order a second Stella FE for my nrx rod.
I highly recommend this reel.

Double Field Failure

2012-11-27T09:31:34

11/27/2012 9:31:34 AM 2 of 5 stars 2 out of 5 stars

I am a devout Shimano user and have been for decades. I own many Shimano reels and have never been disappointed before last week when my two Stellas both failed me within a 24-hour period. I was fishing smallmouth and walleye and Canada and had less than six weeks of usage on both reels when both Stella 1000s became stiff and hard to turn. I filled them with oil through the ports until oil dripped out of them and they still wouldn't turn without force. Prior to that, I had oiled them with the Shimano-provided oil through the oil ports before every outing. Additionally, the day before they stopped working, the bail arm on one Stella wouldn't return to it's line pickup position when I turned the handle. I'll be shipping them to Shimano for repair, which is another first for me as I have Shimanos that I've used for decades without any need of service. I worry that Shimano tried to be a little too fancy with their Stella and that, like a sportscar that requires a tune-up every thousand miles or so, the Stella is temperamental and requires the owner to fuss over it. I wouldn't buy another Stella, but I would buy another Shimano model. I'll also be taking an additional backup or two if I'm to rely upon my Stellas in the future. Yes, they're slick as oiled otters...until they rough as Indian corn cobs. Buyer beware.

The BEST Spinning Reel Made

2012-11-25T09:34:49

These reels are terrific, smooth and secure, and easy to forget about — until you try to use a lesser reel! The mistake I made on our last Canadian fishing trip was letting my wife & daughter briefly use my Stella reels. It was hard getting them back!
The second mistake I made with the Stella reels was stopping in front of the reel counter at shop & letting my wife see what these reels cost! They are very expensive, and no one HAS TO HAVE such a reel, but if you can afford them, and you appreciate having great equipment, you will be VERY happy with these reels. (I now have 4 of them.)

Gotta love these reels

I bought the STL2500FE and have a 1000FD and 2500FD. They are expensive. I also have a couple Sustains in the 2500 and 3000 FE models. The Stellas are smoother but the Sustains are already about perfect. The Stella is a reel for the person seeking perfection and willing to pay a lot for it. Great reels, cannot tell any difference between the new model and the FDs (beyond price) but u cannot go wrong with a Shimano. I cannot tell my wife what any of them cost so when I go there will be some real bargains at the garage sale.

Stella 2500FE

It's a Stella, what do you expect?
Super smooth, light, power gear ratios. You will find excuses to switch this reel around on your rods to use it for different fish just to use it. Going to getting a 1000 when I have the chance to do so.
Fresh or saltwater fishing, if your looking for one reel to do it all...here it is. Match this with a G Loomis IMX or GLX and its a match made in heaven.
