Wonderful reel and my go to reel. I have on a 6'6 Fenwick Spinning Rod. What a wonderful combination. Durable reel. Great casting performance. I have 12 lb Berkley Fire Line. Can't say enough good things about this rig and performance. Buy it. You will not regret.
Great performance in all kinds of weather. This rig got a reel workout this year, as I fished 3 to 4 times per week.

This reel lives up to the hype in my opinion. I use a 4000 for medium saltwater fishing paired with a St. Croix Tidemaster 7'6'' MHF rod. The drag system functions well for heavy pullers like stripers and redfish and fast runners like mackerel and false albacore.
Highly recommended.

casts an mile

Paired this reel with Seaguar Kanzen 15 lb braid, and it casts a mile. Hook up a 4 inch jerk bait and you'll improve your cast distance by half.
Incredible!

Reel is pricey for me, but is of high quality. The drag is extremely smoothe, as is the reel itself during the retrieve. This is a great reel for a drop shot, shakey head, or small (1/4 oz.) jigging spoon.
You will be very satisfied with the high quality of this Shimano reel.

Very light and smooth retrieve. This Stradic is far superior to the earlier models. The X ship provides more cranking power because of more gear to gear surface contact. Nice size handles on the 4000, and 5000.
I would not hesitate to recommend or purchase these reels.

a great reel

This is the smoothest and lightest reel i have ever owned or used , period. i have had a slew of low / mid range reels and this is much nicer than any of those. the 5000 is replacing my slammer 560 and the difference in weight is huge ! i have this mounted on a cabelas xml series rods and the combo is ridiculously light weight. it casts great as well .
just have to catch a fish to see how she performs!

I agree with other reviewers that the newer model IMO is not as smooth or well built as the older made in Japan models.

Decent reel but not worth the price. Not nearly as smooth as the older units. Has more plastic type material than earlier units.
Not recommended at half the price.

MY FRIEND HAD AN ABU GARCIA REVO AND WE COMPARED AND SWICHED OUTFITS TO JUDGE THEM . WE TOOK 26 WALLEYE ON BOTH OUTFITS AND WE BOTH VOTED THE SHIMANO STRADIC THE WINNER.BOTH REELS WERE ON FENWICK RODS. WITH 10 LB.LINE.
