Okuma Trio High Speed

I had to return the first one but...

Well, I ordered this reel in spite of the occasional bad review and sure enough I had to return it. It was seizing up when I cranked the line in like some others have complained about. I told shop about my problem last night about 7 and they sent me an e-mail back with all the info I needed to start THE PROCESS, I dreaded the feeling of disaster about to happen. THE PROCESS at my end was to print one sheet and put it in the box with the reel that it came to me in and wait for UPS to bring me a label and the new reel. I got the reel tonight at 5pm. I had used Amazon Prime 2 day when I ordered but it was returned UPS Overnight Air ALL with a smile and an apology AND for no extra charge. BTW the new reel feels great and I can hardly wait to get on the water with it tomorrow. Amazon, you AMAZE me and I am a cranky old cynic at the best of times.

The new reel feels great with very tight action and no excessive play at all. The looks are classic and the combo of carbon and aluminum go together very nicely. The reel feels like it will balance with a number of different medium to fast action lake and river rods for salmon and steelhead and I wouldn't hesitate putting it to work on a lunker LMB or striper even.

I'll update this review after I have had a chance to try it out over the next few days. I should be rigging for surf perch, sanddabs and steelies on 2 or 3 different rods.

Handles great!

I rated it a five because it has such smooth action and has a very fast retrieve.
I have several different spinning reels in this price range but none of them feel as good as this one.
If you don't want to tie up much money and have a good product then this is the one for you.

versatile reel

one of my favorite rods to fish with. my third okuma reel and all are great in their own strengths. this high speed rod is awesome for just about anything. I've fished 2-3 lb mutton snappers with this reel and had plenty more drag on my 55s. caught 12"+ jack on this reel. i use it to jig and to bottom fish and it has never let me down. with 20 lb test I'm easily casting 30 yds, sometimes it goes farther than i need it too but i can reel it in quickly either way. have it paired with medium heavy 120-30 lb redbone rod and the setup weighs nothing.

The Best

A great real for the money. Very, very happy. The speed ratio is what I found to be an ad vantage for a spinning real.

Buy if you like manual bail flipping

12/18/2012 11:24:48 AM 2 of 5 stars 2 out of 5 stars

Reel seemed decent at 1st.. smooth and casts well. but half way through the 1st day of use, the bail stopped automatically flipping all the way over once you started reeling after a cast. it worked properly 25% of the time. Another thing... the reel handle is too long, because every now and then the handle would actually hit the bail wire. and i had that reel handle seated down as tightly as it could go. 1st and last okuma product I will buy.
