Good reel

This reel is extremely easy to pitch, for crappie and bluegill fishing! It is also very good for regular casting. I have several regular spinning reels on longer crappie rods that I have been using for years, but am going to start changing over to this reel on most.
It has an very smooth drag.

Having used this model reel for over ten years, I ordered a replacement. Very smooth operation, adequate capacity, with all the features we enjoy. Hoping this purchase (made in China) lasts as long as my previous one which was produced in Japan by Daiwa.

This reel worked for about a day.
Became hard to cast.
Line hangs up in side of spool.

I expected better from a Daiwa reel

I bought this reel for my son. He is just learning to fish(cast) without my help. I wanted an underspin because I had already been teaching him to cast with a spinning reel but wanted to get him something a little easier to handle. I looked at several underspin reels but chose this one for the all metal construction which includes the trigger. The reel looks good on the outside but the first time it was used the line came off and wrapped around the shaft(I had re-spooled with different line) . Then it began to hang on to the line even when it was released. It would not cast properly. When I got it home and I took the reel apart to see what went wrong I found a stretched line pin spring and the pin would not fully retract. I had to stretch and re-attach both springs and grind down the line pin(bevel the edge) so it would release the line better. After this it does cast better but the drag is very touchy and not at all smooth. This is not of the normal excellent quality that Daiwa reels normally have. I'm quite disappointed with this reel. I realize this reel is cheap and you usually get what you pay for. I should have sprung a little more for an Abu, Pflueger or Zebco.
